Otsuka Lotec No. 5 Bronze Regulator Watch

The Ōtsuka Lōtec No. 5 is a distinctive Japanese independent watch built around a regulator-style display and an unconventional mechanical design. This original Model No. 5 combines a bronze and stainless steel case with separate hour and minute displays, a central seconds indication and a date display. The original No. 5 was discontinued in 2022, making examples from this generation particularly interesting to collectors of independent Japanese watchmaking. The No. 5 features a regulator-style layout with the hours displayed on a dedicated disc at 12 o’clock and the minutes displayed on a separate disc at 6 o’clock. A small seconds aperture occupies the central area, while the date display adds another practical function. The bronze case is particularly distinctive. Documented examples feature a hand-hammered bronze case using a Japanese Tsuchime-style finish extending across the bezel and toward the lugs. Bronze naturally develops patina over time, meaning the appearance of an individual watch can change with age and use. The watch is paired with a leather strap and stainless steel pin buckle.
